Most shared rides are uneventful: two or three people going the same way, some music, a stop for chai. Safety on a carpool comes from a few habits that take a minute each. Here they are, in the order you need them.
Before you book
1. Read the profile, not just the price
Look at the person's photo, how many trips they have made and their rating from earlier passengers or drivers. A brand new account is not a bad sign on its own, since everybody starts somewhere, but it is a reason to read the rest of the profile more carefully.
2. Look for the ID badge
On Tezzo, a member can submit a government ID, and the Tezzo team checks it by hand. Approved profiles carry a badge on their profile and on their rides. Verify your own ID too: it is what the other side looks for.
3. Prefer a well-known pickup point
A metro station gate, a railway station entrance or a petrol pump on the highway is busy, lit and easy to find. Tezzo suggests these to drivers when they set the pickup, and you can see the exact point on the ride before you book.
4. Women travelling alone: consider a women-only ride
A woman driver can keep her ride for women passengers. On Tezzo, both the driver and every passenger on a women-only ride need a government ID verified by the team, because the gender on a profile is only what someone typed.
Before you leave
5. Talk in the app first
Once the booking is confirmed, use the in-app chat to agree on the pickup time and place, luggage and payment. Keeping the conversation in the app means there is a record of what was agreed. Your phone number is shared only with the other person on a confirmed booking, never on your public profile.
6. Tell someone which ride you are on
Before you set off, send a family member or friend the driver's name, the car and the route. The trip details can be shared from the app.
7. Add an emergency contact
Add one in your Tezzo profile. The SOS button can call them directly during a ride.
8. Check the car and the person match
At pickup, check that the driver and the car are the ones on the ride page. If anything does not match, do not get in, and report it.
During the ride
9. Know where the SOS button is
On Tezzo, the SOS button during a ride lets you call 112, call your emergency contact, or share your trip and location with someone you trust.
10. Trust your instincts
If you feel unsafe, ask to be dropped at the next busy place: a petrol pump, a dhaba with people around, a toll plaza. You do not owe anyone an explanation.
After the ride
11. Rate honestly
Ratings are how the next passenger or driver decides. A fair rating, good or bad, keeps the community honest. Tezzo never rewards anyone for a rating.
12. Report and block when something is wrong
If someone behaved badly, report them from their profile. The Tezzo team reviews every report. Blocking someone works both ways: neither of you sees the other's rides, and neither can message or book the other.
For drivers too
Safety is not only for passengers. As a driver you can approve every request yourself, see a passenger's profile and verification before you accept, and decline without giving the passenger your number. Read how to offer a ride for the rest.
The short version
Choose verified profiles, meet at busy places, keep the chat in the app, tell someone where you are, and know where the SOS button is. Search a ride on the home page, or read how carpooling works in India if this is your first time.
