Offer your empty car seats and share the fuel cost

A guide for drivers: how to publish a ride on Tezzo, set a fair seat price, choose who travels with you, and get paid directly in cash or UPI.

If you drive between two cities, say home and work, or to your family on festivals, the car usually leaves with empty seats. Those seats can pay for a good part of the fuel and tolls, and the drive is easier with someone to talk to.

This guide is for drivers who have never offered a ride before.

What offering a ride means

You publish a trip you are making anyway: where you start, where you are going, the date and time, and how many seats are free. Passengers going the same way book those seats and share the cost of the journey with you.

You are not running a taxi. You decide the route, the time and who travels with you, and you do not change your plans for a passenger. The idea is to share the cost of the trip, not to make a profit from it.

Publishing a ride, step by step

  1. Pin your pickup point. Tezzo suggests well-known places nearby, such as metro and railway stations, bus stands and petrol pumps, because a passenger finds those without a phone call. Tap one to use it.
  2. Pin your drop point.
  3. Pick your route. If there is more than one road, choose the one you will actually drive. The time and the suggested price follow your choice.
  4. Add stops on the way if you can pick up or drop people in towns you pass through. More stops usually means more passengers.
  5. Set the date, time and seats. A ride can offer up to five passenger seats.
  6. Set the price per seat (see below).
  7. Choose your preferences: luggage space, pets, smoking and how chatty you like the trip.
  8. Decide how bookings work: confirm each request yourself, or let bookings confirm instantly.
  9. Publish. Your ride appears in the app and on tezzo.co.in straight away.

Setting a fair price

Tezzo suggests a price per seat worked out from the route's length, and lets you move it with the plus and minus buttons, within a fair range around the suggestion. A good way to think about it:

  • Work out what the trip costs you: fuel for the distance, plus tolls and parking.
  • Divide that by the number of people in the car, including you.
  • That is roughly a fair share per seat.

Our fuel cost split calculator does this sum for you. A price close to the real cost is also what fills seats: passengers compare it with the bus and the train.

If you add stops, each part of the route gets its own price, and no part can cost more than the whole route.

Choosing who travels with you

You stay in control of who gets in your car.

  • Approve each request. You see the passenger's profile, rating and whether their ID is verified before you accept. You can decline with a reason.
  • Women-only rides. A woman driver with a verified ID can keep a ride for women passengers, and each of them needs a verified ID to book.
  • Chat before the trip. Once a booking is confirmed you can chat in the app, and both sides can see each other's phone number.
  • Block and report. If someone makes you uncomfortable, block them. A block works both ways, and the Tezzo team reviews every report.

Verify your own government ID from your profile. Passengers look for that badge, and it is required for women-only rides.

Getting paid

Passengers pay you directly, in cash or by UPI. Tezzo does not take a commission or add a fee to your price, so what the passenger pays is what you get. Agree in chat on how they will pay, and collect at the start of the trip if you prefer.

Fill your seats faster

  • Publish early. Many passengers plan a few days ahead.
  • Share your ride on WhatsApp. From the success screen or your Driver Dashboard, Tezzo makes a poster of your ride with the route, date and price, and a link that opens it.
  • Answer requests quickly. Ride pages show passengers how quickly a driver usually replies.
  • Use a known pickup point. "Gate 2 of the metro station" gets more bookings than a pin on a side street.
  • Keep your rating high. Be on time, drive safely and keep the car clean.

On the day

Open your Driver Dashboard to see who is coming, call them if needed, and start the ride when you leave. After the trip, rate your passengers; they rate you too.
