How the sum works
Fuel cost is the distance divided by the mileage, times the fuel price. Add the tolls and parking you will actually pay, then divide the total by everyone in the car, including the driver. The driver is travelling too, so they pay a share like everyone else.
Getting the numbers right
- Distance: use the road distance from your maps app. The straight line between two cities is always shorter.
- Mileage: what the car really does on the highway, not the brochure figure.
- Fuel price: prices differ from state to state; use today’s price where you will fill up.
- Tolls: your FASTag statement shows what the same route cost last time.
Setting a seat price on Tezzo
When a driver publishes a ride, Tezzo suggests a price per seat from the route’s length and keeps the price within a fair range of it. A share close to the real cost is fair to everyone and fills seats faster. Read the full guide: how to split fuel and toll costs fairly, or in Hindi, पेट्रोल और टोल का खर्च कैसे बाँटें.
